The Navajo Nation general election was held on November 4, but votes for president were not counted.
National Native News continues to cover the legal dispute over the language qualifications of Chris Deschene.
The tribe requires that candidates for president are fluent in the Navajo language.
Tristan Ahtone reported for NPR’s Code Switch that Deschene suspended his campaign just before the general election, after the Navajo Nation Supreme Court ordered that he should be removed from the ballot.

The Farmington Daily Times reports that a presidential election is now scheduled for December 23.
